dazed and confused Dems

April, get comfy, cuz I’m about to rip on the Dems.

You can be certain it’s June here in the South, because the weather forecasters have trotted out their first usage of the dreaded Triple H – hazy, hot and humid. This type of weather is often deemed “Code Red,” for its tendency to cause dizziness, shortness of breath and poor decision making.

These symptoms are already cropping up in the Democratic Party, fresh off a five-month primary bender and basking in the glow of Obama’s 100-watt smile. Even Obama is showing signs of heat stroke, meeting with Hillary in D.C. yesterday to “talk about party unity,” otherwise known as “negotiating a Veep spot for Hillary.” Let’s get this straight, people: Hillary brings nothing to the ticket except the weight of history. What state is she going to deliver? New York? Yeah, that’s a real McCain hotspot. The SuperDegs dropped her like a hot potato halfway through the race. She’s damaged goods, old news, washed up. She’s just going stand on the stage giving Obama the political equivalent of bunny ears or anything else that will focus attention on her.

But that sad charade pales in comparison to the ill-advised pandering job the DNC is doing in Florida for the sole purpose of needling McCain. McCain, skeptical of all things omnibus and expensive, cast a “no” vote for the omnibus water bill that also happened to include funding for the Everglades. The Dems waited until McCain was taking a photo-op trip through the Everglades this week to accuse him of wanting to see the national environmental treasure destroyed. This disingenuous tactic reminds me of the GOP’s habit of attaching giant defense spending pork barrels to omnibus defense spending bills and then accusing the Dems who opposed it of “not supporting The Troops.”

But what really torques me about this bout of Dem heatstroke is their pandering attacks on McCain for not supporting a national catastrophe fund. Yes, the Dems are trying to buy Florida votes by promising that they will force the rest of America to insure the state’s speculative and destructive coastal building boom. I, for one, do not want to be stuck with the bill for Florida’s hurricane comeuppance, and neither should you.
